Really delicious bread pudding was always on the menu when I was growing up. Mama always made sure that when we would have guests over bread pudding was an option for dessert. She used sliced bread for our bread pudding and it was absolutely delicious. I remember tearing the slices of bread up in the huge silver bowl, then adding the milk and even fruit cocktail. I want to share that recipe because it was amazing. After mixing the bread pudding, we would transfer it to a baking dish and bake it until it was golden brown and firm.
I was always so excited at the aroma that traveled through the house of freshly baked bread pudding. It meant I get to eat it. It was so good each and every time. I loved those moments and I cherish those memories. That’s what’s so beautiful about making memories together. We get to own those memories in our hearts.
Mama always gave me different ideas about bread pudding when I started making bread pudding for my family. When I developed this recipe for Cinnamon Sugar Apple Bread, I wanted so badly to be able to have Mama sitting near me to taste it. I know she would’ve loved it. I am blessed to be able to experience cooking with my family. My husband, our children, and I love to cook in the kitchen. Making memories with each other is so amazing!
I wanted to make sure the bread pudding still tasted like bread pudding and that it didn’t take on a completely different texture. I wanted this cinnamon sugar apple bread pudding to be reminiscent of that same breading pudding I used to make with Mama growing up. This recipe is a success. The apples are tender, yet they still have a crunch. Chefs refer to that texture as tender crunch. Firm on the top, yet you still get that sweet custardy texture we all know and love about bread pudding. The cinnamon and sugar flavor is consistent in every bite. There’s a sauce you can pair this with, however, it’s absolutely optional. With or without the sauce, this is an amazing dessert.
